Site Overview

Putterersee is a recreational lake dive site in Styria, Austria, set among the country’s varied freshwater landscapes. Putterersee is a shallow, warm lake in upper Styria, a relaxed bathing and diving spot that is especially popular with beginners and night divers. The gentle depth and easy shore access make it ideal for training, while the calm water suits relaxed fun dives after dark. Weed beds hold perch, tench and carp, and the clear shallows are a good place to practise buoyancy and photography. It is warm for an Austrian lake in summer, so a wetsuit is usually enough for a single shallow dive. The lakeside setting and quiet character make it a friendly, low-pressure place to learn. Like Stubenberg, it shows the softer, warmer side of Styrian freshwater diving. Conditions are typical of Austrian inland water: visibility generally runs from 4 to 12 metres, the current is low and the water temperature ranges between 6 and 24 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth.
