Site Overview

Stubenbergsee is a recreational lake dive site in Styria, Austria, set among the country’s varied freshwater landscapes. Stubenbergsee is a small, warm recreational lake in eastern Styria, built as a bathing and leisure reservoir and ideal for relaxed freshwater dives. Its shallow, sheltered water warms up nicely in summer, making it a favourite for beginner courses and easy fun dives. Paddle-boat and swimmer activity on the surface means divers share the water with lots of non-diving visitors in peak season. Weed beds and the occasional sunken object hold perch, tench and carp, and the clear shallows are good for macro practice. Easy shore entries and a lakeside setting make it a friendly place for a first open-water experience in Austria. It is the antithesis of the cold alpine lakes: warm, mellow and forgiving. Conditions are typical of Austrian inland water: visibility generally runs from 4 to 12 metres, the current is low and the water temperature ranges between 6 and 24 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth.
