Site Overview

Mljet - Veliko Jezero is a lake dive site in Southern Dalmatia - Dubrovnik & Peljesac, Croatia, set in the clear, fish-rich waters of the Adriatic Sea. Veliko Jezero is a saltwater lake inside Mljet National Park, connected to the sea by a channel. The calm, clear water holds pipefish, seahorses and macro life, almost tropical in feel. Its sheltered nature makes it ideal for training and relaxed fun dives. Visibility is good, and the lake setting is serene and protected. It is a unique, almost enclosed diving environment. It is a favourite for beginners and photographers in Southern Dalmatia. Conditions are typical of the Croatian coast: visibility generally runs from 12 to 30 metres, the current is low and the water temperature ranges between 15 and 26 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth. The marine life is classic Adriatic, centred on broad-nosed pipefish, long-snouted seahorse, common octopus, with the full community described below for those planning a dive.
