Site Overview

Premuda Island - Cathedral is a cave dive site in Northern Dalmatia - Zadar & Kornati, Croatia, set in the clear, fish-rich waters of the Adriatic Sea. The Cathedral on Premuda is a spectacular underwater cavern reached as a swim-through at 10-25 m. Light beams fall onto glassfish and sponges, creating a magical, photogenic space. It is a relatively accessible cavern compared with true overhead environments. The surrounding reef continues the dive after the cavern. Visibility is excellent, enhancing the light play inside. It is a flagship site of the northern Dalmatian islands and a photographer’s favourite. Conditions are typical of the Croatian coast: visibility generally runs from 15 to 35 metres, the current is low and the water temperature ranges between 14 and 25 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth. The marine life is classic Adriatic, centred on mediterranean cardinalfish, loggerhead sponge, mediterranean moray, with the full community described below for those planning a dive. Because of its intermediate rating and the need for Open Water certification, Premuda Island - Cathedral is best approached with the right thermal protection and, where relevant, wreck or deep training.
