Paphos anchors the southwest of Cyprus and blends archaeology, easy reefs and a pair of accessible wrecks into one of the island’s most well-rounded dive regions. The star draws are the Vera K and Cynthiana wrecks, both purpose-sunk in recreational depths and now home to snapper, moray eels and resident groupers. Just off the harbour, the Amphorae Reef preserves scattered ancient pottery from antiquity, a genuine archaeological dive among moray eels and octopus. The coastline then turns wild: St. George’s Island (Geronisos) drops into gorgonian walls where amberjack and tuna cruise and the rare monk seal may appear, while Coral Bay, The Caves and the Paphos Aquarium Reef offer shallow, photographic and training-friendly dives. Paphos is also a UNESCO World Heritage city of mosaics and a comfortable base with an international airport, making it an easy region for families, photographers and history-minded divers alike.
