Site Overview

Ahe Lagoon Coral Gardens is a pristine and virtually untouched coral reef ecosystem hidden within the calm protected waters of Ahe's inner lagoon, offering divers the extraordinary experience of exploring a reef system that has remained largely unaffected by human impact in one of the most remote atolls in the Tuamotu archipelago. The coral communities are remarkably healthy and diverse, featuring extensive table coral formations that spread across the lagoon floor like underwater terraces creating complex habitats for hundreds of associated species. Giant clams are abundant throughout the site, with several large specimens displaying their magnificent iridescent mantles in shades of blue, green, and purple that shimmer in the tropical sunlight filtering through the crystal-clear water. Green turtles are regular visitors to the pristine coral gardens, grazing on algae and seagrass with their characteristic methodical feeding behaviour in an environment where they have experienced minimal human disturbance. The exceptional visibility at this site frequently exceeds thirty metres, allowing divers to appreciate the full scale and pristine quality of the coral garden ecosystem from a remarkable distance before arriving at each formation for closer inspection.
