"The boat ride from the dive centre takes approximately fifteen minutes along the coast of Punaauia, with the spring location marked by subtle surface indicators visible to experienced boat captains. Descend along the anchor line toward the reef slope, and as you approach the spring area you will notice the water becoming slightly warmer and the halocline layer becoming visible as a shimmering distortion. Swim through the halocline slowly, observing the remarkable visual effect as light refracts differently through the freshwater and saltwater layers creating a mirror-like surface suspended in the water column. Green turtles are frequently encountered in the vicinity of the spring, seemingly drawn to the warmer water and possibly benefiting from the unique mineral composition. Move outward from the spring to explore the surrounding reef where the coral growth is healthy and diverse, supporting a rich community of reef fish and invertebrates. Eagle rays occasionally glide through the area, their broad wings spanning several metres as they search for food on the sandy substrate.
