Marquesas Pelagic Point represents the ultimate diving experience in the remote Marquesas Islands, offering advanced divers the opportunity to encounter the full spectrum of large oceanic species including whale sharks, melon-headed whales, and various pelagic predators in the deep blue waters surrounding these isolated volcanic islands. Melon-headed whales, one of the least commonly encountered cetacean species worldwide, are known to frequent the waters around the Marquesas where their social pods of hundreds of individuals create spectacular surface displays and occasional underwater sightings. Grey reef sharks and dogtooth tuna patrol the deeper reef slopes and open water areas with their characteristic predatory efficiency, creating constant excitement for divers watching the blue water for approaching large animals. "Enter the water at the designated pelagic point and descend along the reef slope into the blue water where large oceanic species are most frequently encountered. Dogtooth tuna rocket through the water column with their explosive speed, occasionally targeting bait fish schools concentrated near the reef edge. Keep your eyes on the blue water beyond the reef where whale sharks may appear during the plankton-rich months, their enormous spotted bodies creating an unforgettable sight as they filter-feed in the open ocean. Melon-headed whale pods may surface near the dive site, their social behaviour creating spectacular encounters that few divers worldwide have experienced. Barracuda schools form massive aggregations in the current, their silver bodies creating shimmering curtains that provide dramatic photographic compositions.
