Miri Miri is a charming shallow reef site located within Raiatea's protected lagoon system, offering divers of all experience levels a relaxed and rewarding diving experience with abundant marine life in comfortable conditions. The site features a gently sloping reef that transitions from shallow coral bommies to deeper sandy areas, creating diverse habitats that support a wide variety of tropical fish and invertebrate species throughout the depth range. Green turtles are the most celebrated residents at Miri Miri, with several individuals regularly visiting the reef to graze on algae and seagrass with their characteristic methodical feeding behaviour that allows patient divers to observe them at close range. Moray eels of multiple species inhabit the crevices and overhangs throughout the reef, with some individuals growing to impressive sizes in this productive and protected environment where food sources are abundant and predation pressure is low. Angelfish of various species add brilliant splashes of blue, yellow, and black to the reef landscape as they navigate through the coral formations with their distinctive flattened bodies and flowing fins. The site's shallow depth and calm conditions make it particularly suitable for dive training courses, refresher dives, and family diving experiences where comfort and safety are paramount considerations. "Descend from the boat to the shallow reef slope where the coral bommies and their associated fish communities create an immediately engaging underwater landscape. Green turtles are frequently encountered grazing on the reef slope, their large bodies and gentle movements making them one of the most beloved species in the marine environment. Moray eels occupy their favourite crevices throughout the reef, with some large individuals extending their heads from their hiding places to investigate the current for scent particles from potential prey. Angelfish patrol the coral formations in pairs or small groups, their bright colouration and distinctive body shape providing constant visual interest as they move through the reef environment. The coral bommies support diverse communities of smaller reef fish including butterflyfish, parrotfish, and anemonefish that create a vibrant tapestry of colour and movement across the reef slope.
