Site Overview

Die Düne is a wall and reef dive site in North Sea – Heligoland & East Frisian Islands, Germany, reached from the base town of Heligoland. Die Düne is the sandy eastern islet of Heligoland, where a vertical wall drops into clear North Sea water rich with lobsters, cod and nudibranchs. The wall is one of the most accessible of Heligoland’s famous drop-offs and a favourite for wide-angle photography. The site reaches a maximum depth of 25 m with an average profile around 15 m and a shallow start near 5 m, which places it firmly in the intermediate category and means divers should hold at least an Advanced Open Water certification. Conditions are typical of the North Sea environment: visibility generally runs from 10 to 25 metres, the current is moderate, and the water temperature ranges between 7 and 17 degrees Celsius with moderate surge exposure.
