Diving the Edersee

Site Overview

Edersee is a training and wreck dive site in Central German Quarries & Lakes, Germany, reached from the base town of Edersee. The Edersee is a deep reservoir in the Kellerwald that, when water levels drop in dry years, reveals the "Edersee-Atlantis" — a sunken bridge, roads and village remnants. At normal levels it is a clear, fish-rich lake with large perch and pike, a unique blend of history and nature. The site reaches a maximum depth of 30 m with an average profile around 16 m and a shallow start near 2 m, which places it firmly in the intermediate category and means divers should hold at least an Open Water certification. Conditions are typical of the freshwater lake environment: visibility generally runs from 4 to 15 metres, the current is weak, and the water temperature ranges between 5 and 21 degrees Celsius with low surge exposure.
