Site Overview

Kathedrale is a wall and reef dive site in North Sea – Heligoland & East Frisian Islands, Germany, reached from the base town of Heligoland. The Kathedrale is a colossal rock formation off Heligoland, a natural underwater cathedral of towering red pillars and arches draped in life. It is the iconic Heligoland dive, with lobsters in the cracks and fish swirling in the blue, and deservedly one of Germany’s finest. The site reaches a maximum depth of 35 m with an average profile around 22 m and a shallow start near 10 m, which places it firmly in the advanced category and means divers should hold at least an Advanced Open Water certification. Conditions are typical of the North Sea environment: visibility generally runs from 10 to 25 metres, the current is moderate, and the water temperature ranges between 7 and 16 degrees Celsius with moderate surge exposure.
