    Site Overview

The Arch is Zakynthos’ answer to a big-water reef dive: a massive rock arch and coral-encrusted wall on the island’s south coast where the blue water fills with schooling barracuda and jacks. The wall drops from a shallow plateau to around 30 m, draped in the hard-coral-like algae and gorgonians of the clear Ionian, while groupers hold in the arch’s shadow. The open water just off the wall is where the action is, with swirling schools of fish and the occasional amberjack hunting through them. It is a versatile site — confident Open Water divers can enjoy the shallow top, while advanced divers drop down the wall for the pelagic show. Reliable conditions and a short boat ride from Keri make The Arch a satisfying, fish-filled dive that pairs the drama of a wall with the energy of a schooling reef. The Arch (Zakynthos) sits within Ionian Islands – Zakynthos (Zante) and is best described as a wall and reef dive. The water here is typically clear, and the profile — from around 5 m down to 30 m — gives intermediate divers a rewarding range of routes. Among the life you can expect are Barracuda, Amberjack, Dusky Grouper, Red Gorgonian, Bogue. The site rewards a slow, observant approach, and good buoyancy keeps both diver and reef safe. With sensible planning around weather and boats, it ranks among the more memorable stops on a Greek diving trip.

    Dive Briefing

"The boat positions at the arch and the group descends along the line to the top of the wall at 5–10 m. The guide leads a slow descent along the face and through the arch, pointing out groupers and gorgonians and watching the blue for barracuda and jacks. Advanced divers can continue toward 30 m while monitoring gas and no-deco limits. Divers stay off the wall to protect the encrustation and keep control in any current. After the deepest point, the group spirals up and finishes with a safety stop in the bright shallows. A DSMB is deployed before surfacing. The dive ends with a controlled ladder re-entry. On the day, the guide runs a full briefing covering entry, descent line, depth limits and the turn point. Divers follow the plan at a relaxed pace, keeping close to the group and watching depth and gas. The route makes the most of the wall and reef features while staying within no-decompression limits. A safety stop in the shallows rounds off the dive before a controlled ascent and DSMB deployment if needed."

    Traveler Notes

    Who is this for?

The Arch suits Open Water divers on the shallow top and advanced divers on the deeper wall, making it a good shared site for mixed-ability groups. It is excellent for photographers after schooling fish and for anyone who enjoys a wall with pelagic energy. Good buoyancy is needed near the coral, and a semi-dry helps on the deeper sections in cooler months. Confident boat divers will enjoy it most. It is a good choice for intermediate divers who want a mix of marine life and scenery without extreme demands. Photographers will find plenty to frame, and buddy pairs can explore comfortably once briefed. Those new to the area should dive with a local centre to make the most of conditions and site knowledge.
