    Site Overview

The Arvanitia Wall drops straight into the sea below Nafplio’s Venetian cliffs, a steep limestone face clad in gorgonians and home to octopus, morays and lobsters. Reached as a shore dive from the Arvanitia beach, the wall falls from a shallow plateau to about 35 m, making it a versatile site: confident Open Water divers enjoy the bright top, while advanced divers drop down the wall for the deeper gorgonian gardens. It is also one of the Peloponnese’s best night dives — under torchlight the octopus and crustaceans come alive against the cliff. With the romantic town of Nafplio above and reliable conditions in the sheltered bay, the Arvanitia Wall is a satisfying, fish-filled dive that blends history with easy access. Arvanitia Wall (Nafplio) sits within Peloponnese – East & South Coasts and is best described as a wall and reef dive. The water here is typically clear, and the profile — from around 5 m down to 35 m — gives intermediate divers a rewarding range of routes. Among the life you can expect are Red Gorgonian, Mediterranean Moray, Common Octopus, European Lobster, Wrasse. The site rewards a slow, observant approach, and good buoyancy keeps both diver and reef safe. With sensible planning around weather and boats, it ranks among the more memorable stops on a Greek diving trip.

    Dive Briefing

"The group kits up at the beach and rolls in, descending along the wall to the top of the drop-off at 5–10 m. The guide leads a slow descent along the face, pointing out gorgonians and morays and allowing advanced divers to continue toward 30–35 m while monitoring gas and no-deco limits. Divers stay off the wall to protect the gorgonians and maintain control in any current. For the night version, torches reveal the hunting octopus. After the deepest point, the group spirals up the wall, finishing with a safety stop in the bright shallows. A DSMB is deployed before surfacing. The dive ends with a careful exit at the beach. On the day, the guide runs a full briefing covering entry, descent line, depth limits and the turn point. Divers follow the plan at a relaxed pace, keeping close to the group and watching depth and gas. The route makes the most of the wall and reef features while staying within no-decompression limits. A safety stop in the shallows rounds off the dive before a controlled ascent and DSMB deployment if needed."

    Who is this for?

The Arvanitia Wall suits Open Water divers on the shallow top and advanced divers on the deeper wall, making it a good shared site for mixed-ability groups. It is a favourite of night divers and of anyone who wants a wall dive with a famous view, and a great first or last dive of a day. Beginners build confidence here, while experienced divers appreciate the easy access and the night-life. Good buoyancy near the gorgonians is the main skill. It is a good choice for intermediate divers who want a mix of marine life and scenery without extreme demands.
