Beginning in around 8 m of water, the limestone wall plunges almost vertically to 50 m, clad in red and golden gorgonians, sea fans and the hard-coral-like algae that thrive in the nutrient-rich Ionian current. Groupers hover in the blue just off the wall, dentex and amberjack patrol the deeper sections, and morays thread the cracks. The exposed position means the site can have a little swell and a steady current, so it is best for confident advanced divers, but the reward is a pristine, lightly dived wall with superb visibility and a real sense of big-water diving. Photographers love the gorgonian gardens in the 20–30 m band, while deep-certified divers can push down the wall for the chance of larger pelagics.
