    Site Overview

The Keri Caves are a dramatic chain of large sea caves and arches cut into the white limestone cliffs of Zakynthos’ unspoilt south coast. Reached by a short boat ride from Limni Keri, the site offers big, light-filled openings and satisfying swim-throughs where groupers loiter in the shade, lobsters cling to the roofs and anthias shimmer in the blue. The caves are shallow enough for Open Water divers but rewarding for all levels, with the deeper outer walls adding a little variety for advanced pairs. The south-coast position gives reliable, calm conditions and the clear Ionian water makes the white rock glow. It is a superb site for wide-angle photography and for anyone who loves the combination of geology and easy, fish-filled diving. Keri captures the wild, green south of Zakynthos, far from the busy north. Keri Caves sits within Ionian Islands – Zakynthos (Zante) and is best described as a cave and cavern dive. The water here is typically clear, and the profile — from around 3 m down to 25 m — gives beginner divers a rewarding range of routes. Among the life you can expect are Dusky Grouper, European Lobster, Mediterranean Moray, Anthias, Nudibranch. The site rewards a slow, observant approach, and good buoyancy keeps both diver and reef safe. With sensible planning around weather and boats, it ranks among the more memorable stops on a Greek diving trip.

    Dive Briefing

"The boat drifts along the coast and anchors at the first cave mouth. The group descends to the sandy floor at 5–12 m and the guide leads a slow tour through the main arches, using a torch to reveal lobsters and groupers in the recesses. Divers keep fins up to avoid silting and stay within sight of the exit. Advanced pairs can drop to the 20–25 m outer wall while the rest explore the shallows. A safety stop is made in the bright entrance, and a DSMB is deployed before surfacing to warn boat traffic. The dive ends with a relaxed return to the boat. On the day, the guide runs a full briefing covering entry, descent line, depth limits and the turn point. Divers follow the plan at a relaxed pace, keeping close to the group and watching depth and gas. The route makes the most of the cave and cavern features while staying within no-decompression limits. A safety stop in the shallows rounds off the dive before a controlled ascent and DSMB deployment if needed."

    Traveler Notes

    Who is this for?

Keri Caves suit Open Water divers and above, with shallow caves and arches that are exciting but not demanding. They are a favourite of photographers and of anyone who enjoys easy cavern diving with plenty of fish. Beginners build confidence here, while experienced divers appreciate the outer wall and the reliable conditions. Good buoyancy is the main skill, and a torch helps reveal the recess life. It is a good choice for beginner divers who want a mix of marine life and scenery without extreme demands. Photographers will find plenty to frame, and buddy pairs can explore comfortably once briefed. Those new to the area should dive with a local centre to make the most of conditions and site knowledge.
