    Site Overview

Mikro Nisi Reef is a gentle, sloping reef off Kos that rolls from a shallow plateau to about 30 m, crossing sand, rock and seagrass that together form a perfect habitat for turtles, stingrays and a busy community of macro life. The site is sheltered and forgiving, making it a favourite for newer divers and for anyone who loves slow, close-up observation. Loggerhead turtles forage over the meadow in summer, stingrays half-bury in the sand, and morays and octopus watch from the rocks. With reliable conditions and a short boat ride from Kos Town, Mikro Nisi is a lovely half-day out and a great place to really look at the Mediterranean up close. It captures the easy, sunny character of Dodecanese diving. Mikro Nisi Reef (Kos) sits within Aegean – Dodecanese and is best described as a reef dive. The water here is typically clear, and the profile — from around 5 m down to 30 m — gives beginner divers a rewarding range of routes. Among the life you can expect are Loggerhead Turtle, Common Stingray, Mediterranean Moray, Octopus, Wrasse. The site rewards a slow, observant approach, and good buoyancy keeps both diver and reef safe. With sensible planning around weather and boats, it ranks among the more memorable stops on a Greek diving trip.

    Dive Briefing

"The boat anchors above the reef and the group descends to the sloping bottom at 5–10 m. The guide leads a slow tour along the seagrass edge and sand patches, pointing out turtles, rays and morays and reminding divers to keep fins up to protect the grass. With a max depth of 30 m the profile is relaxed, leaving plenty of gas for a long safety stop in the bright shallows. A DSMB is deployed before surfacing to warn boat traffic. The dive ends with a controlled ladder re-entry. On the day, the guide runs a full briefing covering entry, descent line, depth limits and the turn point. Divers follow the plan at a relaxed pace, keeping close to the group and watching depth and gas. The route makes the most of the reef features while staying within no-decompression limits. A safety stop in the shallows rounds off the dive before a controlled ascent and DSMB deployment if needed."
