The Pinnacles of Kalymnos are offshore seamounts rising from deep blue water, draped in the hard-coral-like algae of the clear Dodecanese and swept by currents that draw schooling barracuda, tuna and amberjack. The blocks rise from around 45 m to near the surface, making it a versatile but demanding site: confident Open Water divers enjoy the bright top, while advanced and deep divers drop down past the reef for the pelagic show in the blue. The remote, current-swept position means it is best for experienced divers, but the reward is pristine topography, superb visibility often exceeding 40 m and a real sense of big-water diving. It is a favourite of photographers and of anyone who loves a pinnacle dive with serious energy, and a highlight of Kalymnos’ rugged, sponge-island character.
