The Sami Wall is Kefalonia’s signature marine dive, a sheer limestone wall that drops from a sunlit shallow plateau to 45 m of clear Ionian blue. The face is draped in gorgonians and sea fans and pocked with overhangs where lobsters and groupers hide, while the open water just off the wall can bring amberjack and, on rare occasions, a passing tuna. Because Sami sits on the island’s east coast, the wall is sheltered from the worst of the westerly swell and offers reliable, excellent visibility that often exceeds 30 m. It is a versatile site: beginners can enjoy the bright top at 5–15 m, while advanced divers drop down the wall for the deeper gorgonian gardens and the thrill of big-water diving.
