Sykia Cave is the crown jewel of Milos diving, a huge sea cave whose roof partially collapsed to leave a narrow, light-filled entrance and a cathedral-like chamber beyond. Diving inside is a play of light and shadow: sunbeams shaft down through the opening onto the white volcanic sand, glassfish shimmer in the glow, and groupers lurk in the darker recesses. The cave is shallow and sheltered enough for Open Water divers, but the magic depends on calm, sunny conditions and careful buoyancy to keep the water clear. It is as much a photography trip as a dive, and the chance to surface inside the lit chamber (when conditions allow) is unforgettable.
