    Site Overview

The Christine is a small freighter resting on the sandy seabed off Nafplio at a friendly 15–25 m that makes it one of the Argolic Gulf’s most accessible wreck dives. The compact hull has become a haven for macro life: nudibranchs freckle the algae-covered plates, morays peer from the portholes, and octopus slip from the openings. Although penetration is not encouraged, swimming the bright outer decks gives a sense of the vessel without the risks of enclosed spaces. For divers based in Nafplio, the Christine is a satisfying, easy wreck that combines a little history with abundant small life, and the clear gulf water makes the hull easy to appreciate. It is a favourite of macro photographers and of anyone wanting a relaxed wreck experience close to the town. The Wreck of the Christine (Nafplio) sits within Peloponnese – East & South Coasts and is best described as a wreck and macro dive. The water here is typically clear, and the profile — from around 12 m down to 25 m — gives intermediate divers a rewarding range of routes. Among the life you can expect are Nudibranch, Mediterranean Moray, Common Octopus, Anthias, Wrasse. The site rewards a slow, observant approach, and good buoyancy keeps both diver and reef safe. With sensible planning around weather and boats, it ranks among the more memorable stops on a Greek diving trip.

    Dive Briefing

"The boat anchors uptide of the wreck and the group descends along the shot line to the hull. The guide circles the outside first, pointing out nudibranchs and morays, before allowing pairs to swim the open decks with a torch. Penetration beyond the bright doorway sections is prohibited. Divers maintain a slow pace and keep clear of sharp edges. The ascent follows the line with a three-minute stop, and a DSMB is deployed before surfacing. The dive ends with a careful ladder re-entry. On the day, the guide runs a full briefing covering entry, descent line, depth limits and the turn point. Divers follow the plan at a relaxed pace, keeping close to the group and watching depth and gas. The route makes the most of the wreck and macro features while staying within no-decompression limits. A safety stop in the shallows rounds off the dive before a controlled ascent and DSMB deployment if needed."

    Traveler Notes

    Who is this for?

The Christine suits advanced divers comfortable at 20–25 m who want a gentle wreck dive without serious penetration. It is also rewarding for macro photographers, thanks to the nudibranchs and morays, and for anyone interested in small wrecks. Open Water divers can enjoy the uppermost sections with a guide, while the deeper parts are best for those with deep-dive training. Good buoyancy is important near the hull. It is a good choice for intermediate divers who want a mix of marine life and scenery without extreme demands. Photographers will find plenty to frame, and buddy pairs can explore comfortably once briefed. Those new to the area should dive with a local centre to make the most of conditions and site knowledge.
