Glover's Island Reef & Pinnacle - South Coast (Atlantic Side), Grenada
Site Overview
Glover's Island is a tiny protected mound of coral rock and scrub sitting off Prickly Bay, and the reef that rings it is one of the healthiest patches of ground on the sheltered side of the island. The namesake pinnacle rises in blue water like a wedding cake of coral, the island's wall holds big sponges and fan forests, and fish life inside the MPA boundary is noticeably bold and thick. Coral starts at 8 m and the sand around the island floors out at 24 m — a gentle circumnavigation covers every ability level. The site sits in South Coast (Atlantic Side), one of Grenada's core dive areas, with water at 27-29 °C and typical visibility of 15-25 m. A five-minute boat hop from Prickly Bay and the southwest marinas — the whole loop sits inside easy reach. Small in size, exemplary in status — Glover's is what Caribbean reef management is supposed to produce. Trade winds blow almost constant over the Caribbean, and it is their lulls and builds that set the daily diving schedule around Grenada. Water temperature stays in the high twenties year-round and the island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so the dive boats run twelve months a year.
Dive Briefing
“Enter off the boat's stern and drift the island's leeward wall, circling toward the pinnacle for the group photo stop before finishing on the shallow spurs. Depth management: plan the dive to a maximum of 24 metres and turn early. The sheltered Caribbean side is usually glassy, while the Atlantic-facing south coast runs with the trade-wind current that makes its drift dives so special. Safety stop over the island's south shoulder where the light catches the sea fans. Newer divers can comfortably dive this site, staying within the range flagged by the guide. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral. Local operators hold the final say on which sites run each day, because a shift in wind or swell can change conditions between two bays.”

- Sun exposure on a long shallow loop
Traveler Notes
Who is this for?
Everyone — the MPA shallows carry snorkellers through the same coral that advanced divers loop on the deeper sand. The 8-24 m range suits divers of most certification levels. It makes a perfect bridge dive between the calm southwest bays and the wilder Atlantic sites. The crevices, wreck rooms and sculpture plinths hold the usual Caribbean small life - damsels, blennies, shrimps and the occasional rare frogfish or black seahorse. Night dives on the shallow reefs and harbour wrecks turn up a completely different community of hunters.
For Non-Divers
Molineux is easy to enjoy without a cylinder, and most operators run snorkel trips on the same bays. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral.
