    Site Overview

Gun Point Ridge sits past the last spit of Carriacou, where the seabed breaks into a quilt of reef patches and sand lanes running out to 28 m — and the lionfish here have grown fat and unbothered. This is the place divers ask for when they want lionfish — towering, full-maned individuals posted on the reef patches — plus the structure-and-sand mosaic that keeps search-diving interesting all the way down. The quilt runs 12-28 m; the best lionfish perches sit at 18-25 m, so this is an advanced-depth dive with real payoff. The site sits in Carriacou & Petite Martinique, one of Grenada's core dive areas, with water at 27-29 °C and typical visibility of 20-30 m. Off the northernmost tip of Carriacou — the longest ride of the West Side boats, worth budgeting as a dedicated dive. Remote-feeling, slightly difficult and utterly worth it — the lionfish capital of the Grenadines. Trade winds blow almost constant over the Caribbean, and it is their lulls and builds that set the daily diving schedule around Grenada. Water temperature stays in the high twenties year-round and the island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so the dive boats run twelve months a year.

    Dive Briefing

“Descend to the deepest comfortable lane and cross the quilt patch by patch; the guide reads each bommie for its resident, working the sand lanes between like a hedge-line walk. Depth management: plan the dive to a maximum of 28 metres and turn early. The sheltered Caribbean side is usually glassy, while the Atlantic-facing south coast runs with the trade-wind current that makes its drift dives so special. Staged ascent up the patch ladder with the safety stop on the shallowest interest. This is an advanced-profile dive; newer divers should stay on the sheltered route and let the guide handle the deep line. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral. Local operators hold the final say on which sites run each day, because a shift in wind or swell can change conditions between two bays.”

    Traveler Notes

    Who is this for?

Advanced divers with a taste for oddities and good depth manners; the site rewards patience over distance. The 12-28 m range suits experienced divers comfortable beyond 18 m and in moving water. Non-divers get the story; divers get the photograph of the season. The crevices, wreck rooms and sculpture plinths hold the usual Caribbean small life - damsels, blennies, shrimps and the occasional rare frogfish or black seahorse. Night dives on the shallow reefs and harbour wrecks turn up a completely different community of hunters.

    For Non-Divers

Lauriston is easy to enjoy without a cylinder, and most operators run snorkel trips on the same bays. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral.
