Sister Rocks (Barracuda Point) - Carriacou & Petite Martinique, Grenada
Site Overview
The Sister Rocks are a cluster of reef-topped rises off Carriacou's north-east, and their best-known face earns the name Barracuda Point: a clean slope from 9 m to 23 m with the blue water alongside permanently patrolled. Big schools of barracuda and jack hang in the surge line off the rocks, the reef tops are thick with colour, and the drop-offs deliver the wide-angle, open-blue compositions that make this the island's poster site. Start at 9 m on the shallower saddle and work the slope to 23 m along the wall — the pelagic action happens in the blue at mid-depth, so the whole range earns its keep. The site sits in Carriacou & Petite Martinique, one of Grenada's core dive areas, with water at 27-29 °C and typical visibility of 20-30 m. In the Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area north-east of Carriacou — a 15-25 minute boat ride from West Side. If Carriacou has one must-dive, this is the strong candidate — a proper blue-water reef-and-pelagic dive inside a well-run MPA. Trade winds blow almost constant over the Caribbean, and it is their lulls and builds that set the daily diving schedule around Grenada. Water temperature stays in the high twenties year-round and the island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so the dive boats run twelve months a year.
Dive Briefing
“The boat moors up-current; roll and drop onto the saddle, then traverse the slope with the rocks on your shoulder and the blue to seaward, reading the fish line as you go. Depth management: plan the dive to a maximum of 23 metres and turn early. The sheltered Caribbean side is usually glassy, while the Atlantic-facing south coast runs with the trade-wind current that makes its drift dives so special. Ascend stepwise along the slope; the shallow saddle makes a bright, busy safety stop. This is an advanced-profile dive; newer divers should stay on the sheltered route and let the guide handle the deep line. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral. Local operators hold the final say on which sites run each day, because a shift in wind or swell can change conditions between two bays.”

Safety & Hazards
- Current along the seaward face that can build on a tide turn
- Open-blue exposure off the drop-offs — stay on the structure
- Surface chop on north-east exposures with the trades up
- Depth creep chasing fish schools
- Boat traffic between the rocks on busy mornings
Traveler Notes
Who is this for?
Wide-angle photographers and pelagic lovers rate this as the best single dive in the Carriacou group; confident advanced divers get the full slope, everyone else can stay on the colour-rich saddle. The 9-23 m range suits experienced divers comfortable beyond 18 m and in moving water. Guides time it to tide to put the current at your back along the face. The crevices, wreck rooms and sculpture plinths hold the usual Caribbean small life - damsels, blennies, shrimps and the occasional rare frogfish or black seahorse. Night dives on the shallow reefs and harbour wrecks turn up a completely different community of hunters.
For Non-Divers
High Winder (Lauriston) is easy to enjoy without a cylinder, and most operators run snorkel trips on the same bays. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral.
