    Site Overview

Carriacou's answer to the wreck question is the Boris: a 30 m tugboat sunk on purpose off West Side and now a fully colonised hull in 13-26 m of water, sized perfectly for a whole-tank exploration. The wheelhouse and deck machinery still read clearly through the coral crust, big groupers occupy the shadowed rooms, and after dark the hull becomes a hunting ground for lobster, moray and octopus. Deck at 13 m, sand at 26 m — the full Boris experience sits inside advanced-recreational range with easy swimming between the two. The site sits in Carriacou & Petite Martinique, one of Grenada's core dive areas, with water at 27-29 °C and typical visibility of 15-25 m. Minutes offshore from Carriacou's West Side harbour — the island's signature boat hop. Small-wreck perfection: legible, colonised and diveable at any hour, in any reasonable weather — pair it with the Westsider next door for Carriacou's complete two-wreck afternoon. Trade winds blow almost constant over the Caribbean, and it is their lulls and builds that set the daily diving schedule around Grenada. Water temperature stays in the high twenties year-round and the island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so the dive boats run twelve months a year.

    Dive Briefing

“Drop at the bow, cross the foredeck into the superstructure and loop the stern; the guide briefs the open deck rooms that non-penetrating divers can peer into safely. Depth management: plan the dive to a maximum of 26 metres and turn early. The sheltered Caribbean side is usually glassy, while the Atlantic-facing south coast runs with the trade-wind current that makes its drift dives so special. Ascend from the stern in stages under the boat with a wreckside safety stop. Newer divers can comfortably dive this site, staying within the range flagged by the guide. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral. Local operators hold the final say on which sites run each day, because a shift in wind or swell can change conditions between two bays.”

    Traveler Notes

    Who is this for?

Open Water divers with deep comfort get a complete wreck dive here; the night version is a Carriacou tradition that suits anyone with a torch and manners. The 13-26 m range suits divers of most certification levels. Only properly trained wreck divers should consider penetration here; everyone else stays outside the hull. Penetration of the closed rooms is for wreck-certified divers with a reel — most of the story is visible from outside anyway. The crevices, wreck rooms and sculpture plinths hold the usual Caribbean small life - damsels, blennies, shrimps and the occasional rare frogfish or black seahorse. Night dives on the shallow reefs and harbour wrecks turn up a completely different community of hunters.

    For Non-Divers

West Side is easy to enjoy without a cylinder, and most operators run snorkel trips on the same bays. Several of Grenada's best waters are protected - the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area, the south-coast preserves and Carriacou's Sandy Island/Oyster Bed MPA all use mooring buoys and small user fees to keep anchors off the coral.
