Site Overview

Ritidian Point is Guam's premier marine reserve, located at the northernmost tip of the island where crystal-clear water and decades of protection have created one of the most biodiverse and pristine reef systems in the western Pacific. The reserve status has resulted in extraordinary populations of giant clams, including specimens exceeding one metre in length, alongside abundant sea turtles, reef sharks, and schooling reef fish that thrive in the protected environment. The reef features both a gentle inner lagoon ideal for beginners and a dramatic outer wall for advanced divers, providing varied diving experiences within a single site. The water clarity at Ritidian Point is consistently exceptional, with visibility frequently exceeding 40 metres in the clear oceanic water. Giant clams of multiple species are scattered across the reef flat and slope, their colourful mantles creating stunning photographic subjects. Green and hawksbill sea turtles are encountered on virtually every dive, grazing peacefully on the abundant algae and coral growth. The outer wall features pristine coral coverage with massive table corals, staghorn thickets, and large gorgonian fans that support an incredible diversity of reef fish. The marine reserve represents a successful conservation story that demonstrates the effectiveness of protected areas in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.
