Laxmanpur Beach Reef is Neil Island second major dive site offering a beautiful shallow reef slope environment with scattered coral bommies, soft coral gardens, and reliable encounters with hawksbill turtles and rare macro species in the calm Andaman Sea waters off the island western coast. The gently sloping reef descends from 5 meters to a maximum depth of 18 meters across a series of coral bommies, soft coral gardens, and sandy channels that create diverse micro-habitats supporting extraordinary marine biodiversity throughout the reef system. Hawksbill turtles are regularly encountered foraging on the bommie edges and resting on sandy patches between feeding sessions while napoleon wrasse occasionally cruise the deeper slope sections investigating the coral formations. The site is particularly valued among underwater photographers for its healthy nudibranch population with multiple chromodoris species inhabiting the bommie surfaces and soft coral branches creating outstanding macro photography subjects in the well-lit shallow environment. "A typical dive at Laxmanpur Beach Reef begins with entry from the dive boat at the shallowest point of the reef slope at approximately 5 meters allowing divers to orient themselves over the scattered coral bommies and soft coral gardens before beginning the gentle descent along the reef slope. Once oriented divers should swim slowly over the sandy channels and around the coral bommies maintaining excellent buoyancy control to avoid contacting the fragile coral formations while scanning for turtles foraging on the bommie edges below. The most productive depth zone is between 8 and 15 meters where turtles, nudibranchs, and the richest macro life are concentrated among the coral bommies and soft coral gardens. Navigate along the slope watching for hawksbill turtles on the bommie tops, cuttlefish hovering among the coral branches, and chromodoris nudibranchs crawling across the bommie surfaces. Check the bommie overhangs carefully for moray eels, juvenile fish, and other sheltering species that hide in the shadowed sections during the day. The shallow depth profile allows extended bottom time with no decompression concerns making this site ideal for photography dives and relaxed exploration of the diverse reef habitats.
