Manta Point (Agatti) - Lakshadweep Manta Ray Diving

Site Overview

Manta Point at Agatti Island is Lakshadweep's most reliable manta ray encounter site where reef manta rays visit a coral cleaning station on the outer reef during the plankton-rich months. Divers position themselves on the reef substrate and observe the graceful manta rays as they hover above being cleaned by smaller reef fish. Wingspans of three to four metres create unforgettable silhouettes against the blue water as mantas perform looping passes overhead. Beyond the mantas the site hosts whitetip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, Napoleon wrasse, and schooling trevally on the healthy outer reef. The seasonal nature of manta visits adds anticipation and reward to this exceptional Lakshadweep diving experience. The cleaning station consists of a large coral bommie at twelve metres where small cleaner wrasse and butterflyfish maintain a service point that attracts manta rays from across the atoll reef system. The site has been monitored by marine biologists who have identified individual manta rays by their unique spot patterns confirming regular repeat visits by resident animals. The site benefits from consistent oceanographic conditions that deliver plankton to the cleaning station reliably throughout the manta season ensuring that resident rays return frequently for parasite removal services.
