Site Overview

Manta Point at Minicoy is India's most remote manta ray encounter site located on the outer reef of the country's southernmost Lakshadweep atoll. Reef manta rays visit the cleaning station regularly during plankton-rich months with rare oceanic manta ray visits documented in the deep blue waters beyond the reef. The extreme isolation means manta rays are completely unhabituated to divers often approaching within two metres for close observation of the human visitors. Whale sharks have been recorded passing through during peak plankton concentrations adding to the site's legendary status among Indian diving enthusiasts. The deep ocean surrounding Minicoy supports marine megafauna populations that are rarely observed at more accessible dive sites creating opportunities for genuinely rare species encounters during every expedition.
