Site Overview

The Gap at Bangaram Island is a reef channel dive where tidal currents flow between the lagoon and open ocean creating a nutrient highway that attracts grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and schooling pelagic species. The channel walls are lined with colourful soft corals and sponges thriving in the constant current flow while whitetip reef sharks rest on sandy patches along the channel floor. Hawksbill turtles feed on the wall coral and trevally hunt in the current above. This site offers the thrill of drift diving combined with consistent shark encounters in one of Lakshadweep's most dynamic underwater environments. The remote location on Bangaram ensures minimal diver traffic maintaining pristine conditions throughout the season. The channel ecosystem supports an extraordinary diversity of marine life from tiny cryptic invertebrates hiding in coral crevices to large pelagic predators cruising the current flow.
