    Site Overview

Alor: Boardroom is a dramatic and thrilling submerged pinnacle dive site in the Alor-Pantar strait, situated where the powerful convergence of the Flores Sea and Banda Sea creates nutrient-rich upwellings that sustain extraordinary marine biodiversity throughout the entire year. The pinnacle rises from 28 meters to within 5 meters of the surface, serving as a natural gathering point for large pelagic species including giant trevally, grey reef sharks, and massive schools of barracuda. The site earned its evocative name because the circling sharks and schooling fish create a scene resembling an intense boardroom meeting, with dozens of large predators and prey species interacting in the nutrient-rich water around the pinnacle. The site is accessed from Kalabahi by boat, typically 35 to 50 minutes depending on conditions. The coral coverage is exceptional, with dense hard and soft corals covering every available surface from the shallow summit to the deeper base. The Alor archipelago remains one of Indonesia's most remote and least-dived destinations, with underwater conditions that rival the more famous Raja Ampat and Komodo regions. The best diving conditions are from April through November during the dry season, when visibility reaches 25 to 30 meters and the seas are generally calmest.

    Dive Briefing

"The dive begins with a descent from the boat onto the pinnacle summit at approximately 5 meters where the current strength and direction are carefully assessed by your experienced guide. Giant trevally hunt in coordinated packs around the pinnacle base at 20 to 28 meters, often circling in organized groups that patrol the wall. Grey reef sharks cruise at 15 to 25 meters on the current-facing side of the pinnacle. Schools of barracuda form massive spiraling formations above the pinnacle that are clearly visible from below. The wall between 10 and 20 meters is encrusted with dense soft corals and gorgonian sea fans that provide excellent macro photography opportunities between the exciting pelagic encounters. Your guide leads you back up to the summit for the final portion of the dive where the shallow coral garden at 5 to 8 meters is outstanding in its own right. The safety stop is conducted at 5 meters along the upper pinnacle before surfacing and returning to the boat."
