Biaha Dive Site – Candidasa, Bali
Site Overview
Biaha is a vibrant coral reef dive site located near Candidasa in eastern Bali, offering an excellent blend of healthy coral formations, diverse marine life, and exciting drift diving conditions. The site features a gently sloping reef covered with massive coral bommies, hard coral gardens, and soft coral patches that create a three-dimensional underwater landscape teeming with life. Whitetip reef sharks are regularly spotted resting on the sandy channels between the bommies, while hawksbill turtles glide gracefully over the reef in search of food. Schools of barracuda hover in the current above the reef, and giant trevally patrol the reef edge in search of smaller prey. The site's position in the nutrient-rich waters of the Lombok Strait ensures excellent coral growth and a high diversity of marine species. Biaha is often dived in combination with nearby Gili Selang and Gili Mimpang, providing a comprehensive diving experience that showcases the best of the Candidasa area's underwater offerings. The underwater topography is particularly interesting here, as the volcanic foundation of the reef has created a series of ledges and overhangs that provide shelter for a vast array of cryptic marine life. Whether you are following a school of fusiliers through the blue or scanning the reef for well-camouflaged critters, Biaha delivers a high-quality diving experience that highlights the biological richness of Bali's eastern coastline.
Dive Briefing
"The dive begins with a controlled boat drop-off at the upstream end of the reef, where divers descend to a depth of approximately 10 to 15 meters onto the main coral slope. Your guide will lead the group along the reef in a gentle drift, typically maintaining a depth between 12 and 20 meters to maximize bottom time and marine life encounters. The reef slope is densely covered with large coral bommies separated by white sand channels; your guide will lead you through these channels, where whitetip reef sharks and blue-spotted stingrays are frequently found resting. The coral bommies themselves are bustling centers of activity, home to a diversity of reef fish, colorful nudibranchs, and the occasional ghost pipefish hidden among the soft corals. As the dive progresses, keep a lookout for large schools of barracuda and the occasional Napoleon wrasse cruising along the reef edge. The dive concludes with a gradual ascent back to the shallower reef sections for a safety stop before the boat arrives for pickup."
