Gili Meno: Meno Wall Dive Site – Lombok
Site Overview
Meno Wall is a stunning vertical reef formation on the western side of Gili Meno that drops from just 5 meters below the surface to approximately 25 meters, creating one of the most dramatic underwater landscapes in the Gili Islands. The wall face is covered in a vibrant tapestry of soft corals, gorgonian sea fans, sponges, and crinoids that thrive in the nutrient-rich currents flowing between the islands. The limestone structure features numerous overhangs, crevices, and small caves that shelter a diverse array of marine life, from tiny pygmy seahorses clinging to sea fans to whitetip reef sharks resting in the deeper recesses. Hawksbill turtles are frequently encountered cruising along the wall top, grazing on the sponges and algae that grow in the shallower sections. The site is typically dived as a drift, with the gentle current carrying divers along the wall face while maintaining a constant depth to explore the colorful invertebrate life. Leaf scorpionfish and harlequin shrimp are among the more unusual critters that experienced guides can locate in the wall's nooks and crannies. The wall's relatively remote location on Gili Meno means fewer divers than the popular Gili Trawangan sites, creating a more serene and intimate diving experience. Meno Wall is widely considered one of the best wall dives in the entire Lombok region.
Dive Briefing
"The dive begins with a descent from the boat onto the wall top at approximately 5 to 8 meters, where the shallow coral garden provides an orientation point before dropping down the wall face. Your guide leads you along the wall at 12 to 18 meters, exploring the overhangs and crevices where whitetip reef sharks and moray eels shelter. The wall face is covered in colorful soft corals and sea fans that extend outward to catch the current. At the deeper sections, the wall becomes more vertical with dramatic drop-offs into the blue. The drift continues along the wall for approximately 40 minutes, gradually ascending as you explore the shallower sections and look for turtles resting on the ledges. The safety stop at 5 meters is spent along the wall top where the sunlight illuminates the vibrant shallow reef. The clear water here often allows you to see the boat overhead throughout your safety stop, providing a very relaxed end to the dive."
