Komodo: Three Sisters Dive Site – Komodo National Park
Site Overview
Three Sisters is a trio of coral-covered pinnacles in central Komodo National Park, offering one of the most varied and engaging intermediate dive experiences in the region. Named for three rock formations rising from the seafloor in close proximity, each sister has its own unique character. The largest pinnacle rises from 28 meters to within 4 meters of the surface, encrusted in vibrant soft corals and gorgonian fans that sway in the moderate current. The second sister features a dramatic wall with overhangs and swim-throughs at 15 to 20 meters, providing exploration opportunities and habitat for lobster and moray eels. The third is a smaller bommie surrounded by sand channels that attract blue-spotted stingrays, garden eels, and occasional white sand rays. The current flows between the pinnacles, creating a gentle drift that carries divers naturally from one formation to the next. Whitetip reef sharks rest on the ledges of each pinnacle, schools of fusiliers and anthias cloud the mid-water, and Napoleon wrasse cruise curiously between the formations. Hawksbill turtles are regular visitors, often seen feeding on the reef flats. The pinnacle summits at 4 to 10 meters are covered in colorful soft corals, sea fans, and anemones. Three Sisters is best dived from April through December when visibility reaches 20 to 30 meters. It is typically combined with the Gililawa sites on central Komodo day trips from Labuan Bajo.
Dive Briefing
"The dive begins with a descent onto the largest pinnacle at approximately 4 to 5 meters. Your guide leads you around the pinnacle as you descend to the base at 25 to 28 meters, where whitetip reef sharks rest on the ledges and schools of fusiliers swirl in the current. The current then carries you across the sand channel to the second sister, where you explore the wall overhangs and swim-throughs at 15 to 20 meters. Napoleon wrasse cruise between the pinnacles, often approaching divers. The third sister is a smaller bommie where you descend to the sand channels to look for blue-spotted stingrays and garden eels. Your guide leads you back up to the shallow pinnacle summit at 5 to 8 meters for the safety stop, where the soft coral coverage is at its most vibrant. The multi-pinnacle layout gives the dive a natural progression with the current. Take your time during the ascent to notice the smaller invertebrates that inhabit the pinnacle summits."

Traveler Notes
Who is this for?
Three Sisters is suitable for intermediate divers with Advanced Open Water certification. The moderate currents and multi-pinnacle navigation make it engaging without being extreme, offering variety within a single dive that appeals to divers who enjoy exploring different formations. It is a fantastic choice for those who want a mix of topography, from vertical walls to sandy channels. Photographers will find a great variety of subjects across the three distinct environments. The site is especially popular for its reliable presence of sharks and other large residents, combined with some of the best soft coral growth in the central park. For many, the ability to see three distinct ecosystems in one immersion makes this one of their favorite Komodo sites.
