    Site Overview

Yellow Wall is one of the most visually spectacular dive sites in Komodo National Park, featuring a dramatic vertical wall that is blanketed in vibrant yellow soft corals that give the site its name. Located in the southern section of the park near Komodo Island, the wall descends from 3 meters to approximately 30 meters, with the most colorful sections found between 8 and 20 meters where the yellow soft corals are joined by orange sea fans, red gorgonians, and a kaleidoscope of other invertebrates. The nutrient-rich currents that flow through the southern channels sustain this extraordinary soft coral growth, creating an almost solid wall of color that is one of the most photographed scenes in Indonesian diving. The wall is not just beautiful — it is alive with marine life, including pygmy seahorses on the gorgonian fans, schools of sweetlips and fusiliers hovering in the current, whitetip reef sharks resting on the ledges, and Napoleon wrasse cruising along the wall face. The shallow section at 3 to 8 meters features a vibrant coral garden with hard corals and reef fish that serves as an outstanding safety stop. The site is best dived during the dry season from April through December, and morning dives offer the best light conditions for appreciating the vivid wall colors. A dive torch enhances the experience dramatically, revealing the true intensity of the yellow, orange, and red colors that are muted by the blue ambient light. Yellow Wall is accessible from Labuan Bajo by speedboat and is typically included in southern Komodo itineraries alongside Manta Alley and Pink Beach.

    Dive Briefing

"The dive begins with a descent from the boat onto the shallow reef crest at approximately 3 to 5 meters, where a vibrant hard coral garden provides an immediate introduction to the site's diversity. Your guide leads you to the edge of the wall, where the topography drops dramatically to 30 meters. The current-facing side of the wall is where the signature yellow soft corals are densest, creating a stunning visual display. As you drift along the wall at 8 to 15 meters, the colors intensify with depth, and orange sea fans and red gorgonians join the yellow soft corals. Overhangs at 12 to 18 meters harbor pygmy seahorses, shrimp, and other small critters. Whitetip reef sharks rest on the ledges, and Napoleon wrasse cruise past in the current. The deeper sections at 20 to 25 meters feature the most dramatic wall scenery but require careful NDL management. Your guide leads you back up to the shallower coral garden at 5 to 8 meters for the final portion of the dive and safety stop, where the colors and marine life are still outstanding."
