    Site Overview

Bat Cave Corner is one of Menjangan Island's most unique and atmospheric dive sites, featuring a dramatic limestone cave entrance that opens into the cliff face just above the waterline, with colonies of fruit bats roosting in the darkness above. The underwater portion of the site features a beautiful coral wall and slope system that extends from approximately 3 meters to over 25 meters depth, covered with pristine hard and soft corals that thrive in the crystal-clear waters of the West Bali National Park. The cave entrance creates a stunning silhouette for underwater photographers, with light streaming through the opening and illuminating the coral-covered walls inside. Hawksbill turtles are virtually guaranteed sightings, often seen gliding along the wall face or resting on the ledges near the cave entrance. Schools of batfish hover above the reef in large numbers, creating a distinctive silhouette against the deep blue water. Napoleon wrasse cruise through the bommies, and whitetip reef sharks patrol the deeper sections. The site's gentle conditions and unique cave feature make it one of the most memorable and photogenic dives on Menjangan Island. The intersection of terrestrial and marine life here is palpable, as the sounds of the bats overhead can sometimes be heard during the surface interval, adding a wild and remote feeling to the entire diving day. The coral health in this corner of the park is exceptional, with a diversity of species that reflects the long-standing protection of the area.

    Dive Briefing

"The dive begins with a boat drop-off near the cave entrance, where divers descend to approximately 8 to 12 meters and begin exploring the wall and cave system. Your guide will lead you along the wall face, pointing out the cave entrance and the marine life that inhabits the surrounding area. Use your torch to illuminate the cave entrance and the overhangs along the wall for the best critter sightings. The wall runs for several hundred meters, and the dive typically covers the most productive sections at depths between 10 and 20 meters. Pay attention to the blue water above the wall for schooling batfish and passing pelagics. The dive concludes with a gradual ascent to the shallows for your safety stop before the boat picks you up. Take your time during the ascent to explore the very shallowest parts of the reef where the sunlight is brightest and the color of the hard corals is most intense. The safety stop is often visited by curious turtles who are used to the presence of divers in the park."
