Menjangan Island Pos 1 Dive Site – Bali
Site Overview
Menjangan Island Pos 1 is one of the most spectacular wall dive sites in all of Bali, located within the protected waters of the West Bali National Park where the coral reefs have been preserved in pristine condition for decades. The wall at Pos 1 drops from approximately 5 meters below the surface to depths exceeding 30 meters, creating a vertical canvas of extraordinary beauty covered with massive gorgonian fans, barrel sponges, and soft corals in every imaginable color. The site is renowned for its exceptional visibility, which frequently exceeds 40 meters, allowing divers to fully appreciate the dramatic scale of the wall and the dense marine life that inhabits it. Hawksbill turtles are virtually guaranteed sightings, often seen gliding gracefully along the wall face or resting on coral ledges. Schools of batfish hover above the wall in large numbers, creating a distinctive silhouette against the deep blue water. Napoleon wrasse cruise through the bommies, and whitetip reef sharks patrol the deeper sections. The gorgonian fans at Pos 1 are known to host pygmy seahorses, making this a site that rewards both wide-angle and macro photography. The gentle drift along the wall face makes this an accessible and enjoyable dive for divers of all experience levels.
Dive Briefing
"The dive begins with a boat drop-off at the start of the wall, where divers descend to approximately 8 to 12 meters and begin exploring the vertical face. Your guide will lead you along the wall in a gentle drift, maintaining a depth between 12 and 22 meters to balance air consumption with marine life viewing. The wall runs for several hundred meters, and the dive typically covers the most productive sections in a single pass. Pay attention to the gorgonian fans, which are known to host pygmy seahorses that are nearly invisible without careful examination. The overhangs and ledges along the wall harbor sleeping turtles, lobsters, and moray eels. As the dive progresses, you may encounter schooling batfish and Napoleon wrasse. The dive concludes with a gradual ascent to the shallower sections for your safety stop at 5 meters. Keep your eyes on the reef top during your stop, as it is often bustling with small fish and colorful nudibranchs."
