Menjangan Island Pos 2 Dive Site – Bali
Site Overview
Menjangan Island Pos 2 is a stunning extension of the island's famous coral wall system, offering a slightly different underwater landscape characterized by dramatic overhangs, small cave systems, and an even higher density of marine life than its neighboring site. Located within the West Bali National Park, the wall at Pos 2 drops from approximately 5 meters to over 30 meters, its face adorned with massive gorgonian fans, barrel sponges, and soft corals that thrive in the crystal-clear waters of the Bali Sea. The site is particularly famous for its small cave systems and overhangs, which harbor sleeping turtles, lobsters, and moray eels in abundance. Hawksbill turtles are virtually guaranteed sightings, often seen gliding along the wall or resting on the ledges above the caves. The visibility at Pos 2 is consistently exceptional, frequently exceeding 40 meters, which allows divers to fully appreciate the dramatic scale of the vertical reef and the dense marine life that inhabits it. Schools of batfish, fusiliers, and anthias create a colorful canopy above the wall, while whitetip reef sharks patrol the deeper sections. The gentle drift along the wall face makes this an accessible and enjoyable dive for divers of all experience levels. It is the perfect continuation of the North Bali underwater adventure, offering a level of preservation that is rare in modern oceans. Every crevice seems to hold something new, making it a site that you could dive multiple times and always find something different.
Dive Briefing
"The dive begins with a boat drop-off at the start of the wall, where divers descend to 8 to 12 meters and begin exploring the vertical face and its overhangs. Your guide will lead you along the wall, pointing out the small caves and ledges where turtles, lobsters, and moray eels are commonly found. Use your torch to illuminate the cave interiors and overhangs for the best critter sightings. The wall runs for several hundred meters, and the dive typically covers the most productive sections at depths between 12 and 22 meters. Pay attention to the gorgonian fans for pygmy seahorses and the deeper sandy ledges for resting whitetip reef sharks. The dive concludes with a gradual ascent to the shallows for your safety stop. Take your time during the ascent to watch the schools of anthias dancing above the reef crest in the brilliant sunlight. The safety stop is often one of the most colorful parts of the dive as the light is brightest in the shallows."
