Blue Cave Okinawa - Japan Diving

Site Overview

The Blue Cave is one of Okinawa's most iconic underwater experiences featuring a natural limestone cavern illuminated by an ethereal blue light that filters through the water and reflects off the sandy bottom and cave walls. Located adjacent to Cape Manza the cave is accessible as a shore dive from the same entry point as Maeda Flats. The cave entrance opens at approximately two metres depth with the interior extending twelve metres below the surface creating a cathedral-like space filled with shimmering blue illumination. The phenomenon occurs when sunlight enters through an underwater opening and refracts through the water illuminating the cave interior with an intense blue glow. Inside the cave divers and snorkellers can observe glassfish cardinalfish and small moray eels sheltering in the dim recesses while the blue light creates spectacular photography conditions. The surrounding reef outside the cave entrance supports the same coral diversity as Maeda Flats with clownfish parrotfish and occasional sea turtles. The combination of the unique underwater cavern experience and the adjacent coral reef makes the Blue Cave a must-visit site for divers of all experience levels visiting Okinawa.
