Bora Limestone Reef - Japan Diving

Site Overview

Bora Limestone Reef is a unique dive site off Miyako-jima featuring dramatic limestone formations sculpted by millennia of water erosion creating natural arches overhangs and swim-throughs encrusted with coral and sponge life. The reef extends from five to twenty metres depth with the limestone structures providing exceptional habitat diversity for marine life. The natural arches and swim-throughs create exciting exploration opportunities while maintaining excellent visibility throughout the dive. Soft corals and gorgonian fans colonise the current-facing surfaces of the limestone formations creating colourful contrast against the pale rock. The sandy patches between formations host garden eels blue-spotted stingrays and occasional flounders while the reef structures shelter diverse tropical fish including butterflyfish angelfish and parrotfish. Green sea turtles are commonly observed resting within the limestone overhangs and foraging on the adjacent reef. The site's accessible depth range and gentle conditions make it suitable for all certification levels while the unique geological formations attract experienced photographers seeking distinctive underwater landscapes.
