German Village Wall - Japan Diving

Site Overview

German Village Wall is a dramatic coral wall dive off the western coast of Miyako-jima featuring a near-vertical drop-off descending from five metres to over thirty metres encrusted with diverse coral and sponge life. The wall face is covered with massive gorgonian fans soft corals and barrel sponges that thrive in the current-swept vertical environment creating a colourful tapestry of marine life. Whitetip reef sharks patrol the base of the wall while schooling jacks and barracuda circle in the blue water beyond the drop-off. The upper rim of the wall at five to ten metres features a healthy coral reef flat with abundant tropical fish providing an excellent shallow conclusion to the wall experience. The site takes its name from a historical German settlement that once existed on the adjacent coastline adding cultural interest to the diving experience. The wall's vertical nature provides excellent depth management with divers ascending and descending along the face to control their profile. The clear Miyako waters ensure exceptional visibility allowing full appreciation of the wall's dramatic scale and the marine life communities at different depths.
