Kerama Manta Point - Japan Diving

Site Overview

Kerama Manta Point is one of Japan's most reliable dive sites for observing reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) throughout the year with peak encounters from January through April during the mating and cleaning season. The site features a coral-encrusted pinnacle rising from twenty-five metres to five metres depth with a natural cleaning station at fifteen metres where mantas visit to have parasites removed by cleaner wrasse and other small reef fish. The pinnacle is surrounded by deep blue water creating an open ocean environment where pelagic species including eagle rays dolphins and occasional whale sharks pass through. The coral reef surrounding the pinnacle supports exceptional biodiversity with hundreds of tropical fish species massive table corals and schooling jacks creating a vibrant underwater landscape. The crystal clear Kerama waters consistently provide visibility exceeding thirty metres making it one of the most spectacular diving environments in Japan. Manta ray encounters at this site follow strict observation protocols with divers maintaining passive positions on the reef to avoid disturbing the mantas during their cleaning visits.
