Nishihama Beach Reef is a pristine shore dive site on Zamami Island in the Kerama group offering direct beach access to a vibrant coral reef system extending from two to fifteen metres depth. The site features one of the healthiest shallow coral reefs in Japan with extensive staghorn thickets table corals and brain corals covering the substrate in crystal clear Kerama waters. The beach entry provides a gentle transition from sand to reef allowing beginners to build confidence in shallow water before exploring the deeper coral formations. Tropical fish diversity is exceptional with hundreds of species including clownfish parrotfish butterflyfish and damselfish creating a colourful and lively reef environment. Green sea turtles are frequently observed foraging on the reef flat just metres from the beach providing spectacular encounters even for snorkellers. Dive Briefing
"Enter from the sandy beach and swim across the shallow sandy area at two to three metres depth toward the main coral reef beginning approximately twenty metres from shore. Follow the reef slope downward from five to fifteen metres observing the diverse coral community and abundant tropical fish. The reef gradient is gentle allowing extended bottom time at comfortable depths. Return toward the beach following the reef edge and ascending through the shallows before exiting onto the sand. The shallow sections at three to five metres provide excellent extended bottom time with abundant marine life and minimal nitrogen loading creating an ideal safety stop environment before the shore exit.
