Casa Cenote, also known as Cenote Manatí, is one of the most accessible and enchanting cenote diving experiences along the Riviera Maya, offering a unique transition between freshwater and ocean environments within a single dive. Unlike deep underground cenotes, Casa Cenote is an open-air cenote where the cavern connects directly to the Caribbean Sea through an underwater passage, creating a fascinating blend of freshwater and saltwater environments that support an unusual mix of marine and freshwater species. The cenote features crystal-clear water with visibility often exceeding thirty meters, revealing stunning limestone formations, tangled mangrove roots that penetrate the water from above, and shafts of natural light that illuminate the cavern in ethereal blue and green tones. Divers navigate through the main cavern chamber and along the freshwater stream that feeds into the ocean, encountering schools of tarpon, freshwater fish, and the occasional snapper that moves between the two environments. The halocline where freshwater meets saltwater creates mesmerizing visual effects as the different water densities produce shimmering layers that distort light in unexpected ways. The mangrove root systems that line the edges provide critical nursery habitat for juvenile marine species, making this an ecologically important site as well as a visually spectacular one. Dive Briefing

"Enter the water from the wooden platform at the edge of the cenote and descend into the crystal-clear freshwater where you will immediately notice the exceptional visibility extending to the limestone walls on all sides. Swim through the main cavern chamber following the natural light that filters through the open ceiling, observing the intricate mangrove root systems that create natural sculptures along the walls. The freshwater environment hosts small tropical fish and the occasional freshwater turtle before you reach the transition zone where saltwater enters from the ocean connection. At the halocline you will experience the distinctive visual distortion as freshwater and saltwater layers meet, creating a shimmering boundary that is one of the most photographed features in cenote diving. Continue through the passage toward the ocean exit where tarpon and larger fish congregate near the opening. The return route follows the same path back through the main chamber where you can explore additional passages and observe the stunning light effects created by the afternoon sun penetrating the cavern entrance. Ascend to the platform in the shallow freshwater section."
