"Punta Sur is reached by a 35-minute boat ride to the southern tip of Cozumel. Descend along the reef wall to the cavern entrance at approximately 25 metres. Check your air supply, activate your torch, and confirm your buddy is close before entering the swim-through. The tunnel is approximately 15 metres long with the floor descending from 25 to 40 metres. Maintain neutral buoyancy and avoid kicking the walls as sediment can reduce visibility. Light effects inside the cavern create dramatic photographic opportunities. Exit the tunnel at 40 metres into the open water where giant groupers and barrel sponges await. Monitor your depth and air supply carefully at this depth. The guide will lead you along the wall observing the massive sponges and gorgonian forests before beginning the gradual ascent. Look for the endemic Cozumel toadfish in the rocky crevices along the reef. Ascend gradually with extended safety stops above the shallower reef formations.
