    Site Overview

The Islas Formigues are small islets off Palamós whose walls are clad in red gorgonians and swept by currents that draw barracuda schools and abundant macro life. Intermediate divers follow the drop-offs at 10-30 m, enjoying the contrast between schooling fish in the blue and the tiny nudibranchs on the rock. The clear Costa Brava water makes it a productive, photogenic site, and the islets offer a quieter alternative to the busy Medes. Formigues is a beloved local dive. The site rewards careful planning, good buoyancy and respect for Spain’s marine-protection rules, and remains a favourite among divers who value dramatic volcanic or Mediterranean scenery, historic wrecks and rich marine life across a long, varied season.
