Life on a Mborokua expedition revolves around the liveaboard galley, which serves an international menu built around frozen and imported provisions supplemented by the occasional fresh catch of tuna or mahi-mahi. Coconut, rice and vegetables form the base, and the crew prepares hearty meals to fuel demanding current dives. Divers should hydrate well in the equatorial heat and rely on the vessel for safe drinking water, as there is no island infrastructure.

Mborokua, widely known as Mary Island, is a remote volcanic island south of New Georgia that delivers some of the most exhilarating big-animal diving in the Solomon Islands. Its sheer walls and isolated bommies rise from deep blue water, swept by strong currents that funnel massive schools of barracuda, jacks, grey reef and silvertip sharks, and seasonally hammerheads and even whale sharks. The western side holds manta cleaning stations that can be visited only by liveaboard. This is not a place for the casual traveller: access is expedition-only, the currents are fierce and the depth is serious, but the reward is pristine, pelagic-rich diving far from any crowds. For advanced and technical divers chasing the adrenaline of open-ocean action in a scarcely-touched setting, Mborokua is a genuine bucket-list destination.

Mborokua is reached exclusively by expedition liveaboard operating out of Munda or Honiara. There is no tourist infrastructure on the island, and the crossing and dive sites require careful planning around strong currents and weather windows.
