Site Overview

Breakers Reef is the premier dive site of Florida's central Atlantic coast featuring a unique limestone reef system with healthy coral communities, seasonal goliath grouper aggregations, and extraordinary loggerhead turtle encounters during nesting season. The reef runs parallel to the coastline at depths of three to fifteen meters creating diverse habitat zones from shallow coral gardens to deeper limestone ledges supporting dense fish populations. The site is renowned for its seasonal goliath grouper spawning aggregation during summer months when dozens of these gentle giants gather on the reef creating one of Florida's most spectacular underwater wildlife events. Loggerhead turtles nest on nearby beaches from May through October and are frequently encountered feeding on the reef during their between-nesting foraging trips. The central Florida location makes Breakers Reef accessible from Orlando, Cocoa Beach, and the Space Coast providing convenient reef diving for visitors to the region's major tourist attractions. The limestone reef system extends for several kilometers along the coastline providing extensive habitat for diverse marine communities including endangered sea turtles and commercially important fish species.
