    Site Overview

Bay Canh Island is Con Dao's premier wall diving site, a dramatic vertical formation descending beyond 28 metres with spectacular gorgonian and soft coral coverage that ranks among the finest in Southeast Asia. The wall face is draped in massive sea fans, black coral trees, and colourful soft corals that thrive in the nutrient-rich current flowing around the island. Grey reef sharks patrol the wall base and deeper ledges, providing thrilling encounters for experienced divers. Eagle rays glide along the wall face feeding on the current-borne plankton, while schools of barracuda form silvery curtains above the reef edge. Napoleon wrasse cruise along the wall, and large groupers occupy the deeper ledges and overhangs. The wall's geological structure features dramatic ledges, overhangs, and crevices harbouring diverse invertebrate communities including colourful crinoids, basket stars, and rare nudibranchs. The shallower sections at 8 to 15 metres feature bright hard corals and schooling reef fish that provide an excellent safety stop environment. Bay Canh represents the pinnacle of Con Dao diving, combining dramatic topography, big animal encounters, and pristine marine conditions in one of Vietnam's most remote and rewarding dive sites. The protected national park status ensures the wall communities remain healthy and vibrant, representing some of the best-preserved deep reef ecosystems in the South China Sea.

    Dive Briefing

"Descend to the wall top at approximately 10 metres and orient to the current direction flowing along the formation. Allow the current to carry you in a comfortable drift along the wall face, exploring the gorgonian gardens and soft coral communities concentrated between 15 and 25 metres. Scan the blue water off the wall for grey reef sharks patrolling the deeper sections and eagle rays gliding along the current lines. Napoleon wrasse cruise along the wall face at mid-depths, and schools of barracuda concentrate on the upcurrent side. Explore the ledges and overhangs where colourful crinoids, basket stars, and cryptic species inhabit the shaded surfaces. Maintain strict depth discipline and monitor NDL carefully as the wall's dramatic topography can tempt divers deeper than planned. Ascend gradually along the wall face to the shallower hard coral zones at 8 to 12 metres. Complete a generous safety stop at 5 metres with your DSMB deployed before surfacing near the dive boat."
