    Site Overview

Hon Dam Ngoai is an exposed rocky pinnacle in the southern An Thoi archipelago that attracts pelagic species and delivers some of Phu Quoc's most exciting advanced diving. The pinnacle rises from depth with swim-through passages and dramatic vertical relief that creates varied microhabitats supporting diverse marine communities. Giant trevally patrol the open water around the formation, while large moray eels and groupers occupy the numerous crevices and ledges in the rock structure. The pinnacle's exposed position in the current flow ensures constant nutrient delivery supporting rich filter-feeding communities of sea fans, sponges, and soft corals on the rock surfaces. Sweetlips shelter on the protected lee side while schools of snapper and fusiliers swirl in the current on the upcurrent face. The swim-through passages add an adventure element, with natural tunnels through the pinnacle allowing divers to navigate the interior while light penetrates from above. The deeper base at 20 to 24 metres hosts the largest invertebrate growth and the most impressive rock formations. Hon Dam Ngoai rewards experienced divers who seek pelagic encounters, dramatic topography, and the thrill of exposed pinnacle diving in the remote reaches of the An Thoi archipelago. The site offers an exceptional underwater experience with diverse marine habitats ranging from shallow coral gardens to deeper reef walls where larger pelagic species patrol the blue water. Hon Dam Ngoai represents one of Vietnam's finest diving destinations in the Phu Quoc region, combining healthy coral ecosystems with abundant tropical fish life and consistently warm water temperatures throughout the diving season. The well-preserved marine environment supports a remarkable biodiversity that includes both resident reef species and seasonal visitors, making every dive a unique encounter with Vietnam's rich underwater heritage. Whether you are exploring the colourful shallows or venturing deeper along the reef structure, the combination of excellent visibility, warm water, and diverse marine life creates an unforgettable diving experience suitable for advanced divers and beyond.

    Dive Briefing

"Descend onto the pinnacle summit at approximately 10 metres and orient to the current direction flowing around the formation. Descend along the upcurrent face exploring the rock surfaces covered in sea fans and soft corals, scanning the blue water for trevally and barracuda patrolling the current lines. Explore the swim-through passages at depths of 14 to 20 metres, using your torch to illuminate the interior and check for resting morays and groupers. The pinnacle's multiple faces offer varied marine communities, with the upcurrent side supporting the richest filter-feeding growth and the lee side sheltering resting species. Circle the formation at your planned depth, noting the changing topography and fish communities. The deeper base at 20 to 24 metres hosts the largest gorgonian fans and the most dramatic rock formations. Ascend gradually along the pinnacle face to the shallow reef top for your safety stop at 5 metres, deploying your DSMB before surfacing near the dive boat."
