Site Overview

Hon Dam Ngoai is an exposed rocky pinnacle in the southern An Thoi archipelago that attracts pelagic species and delivers some of Phu Quoc's most exciting advanced diving. The pinnacle rises from depth with swim-through passages and dramatic vertical relief that creates varied microhabitats supporting diverse marine communities. Giant trevally patrol the open water around the formation, while large moray eels and groupers occupy the numerous crevices and ledges in the rock structure. The pinnacle's exposed position in the current flow ensures constant nutrient delivery supporting rich filter-feeding communities of sea fans, sponges, and soft corals on the rock surfaces. Sweetlips shelter on the protected lee side while schools of snapper and fusiliers swirl in the current on the upcurrent face. The swim-through passages add an adventure element, with natural tunnels through the pinnacle allowing divers to navigate the interior while light penetrates from above. The deeper base at 20 to 24 metres hosts the largest invertebrate growth and the most impressive rock formations.
